Winter Weather Advisory issued Friday

Winter Weather Advisory

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect until 9pm for the following counties, Cass, Christian, Effingham, Fayette, Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Morgon, Sangamon, Scott, and Shelby. Passing snow showers will drop up to 1" of snow with low visibility for those driving in it.

A tailing wave of snow showers are quickly passing through central Illinois Friday afternoon. Most areas saw about 1-2" of snow by this morning mainly accumulating on grassy surfaces. This will likely hold true with this batch, so road conditions aren't expected to be bad. The key message today is that the snowfall plus wind will cause low visibility for short periods of time, while would be hazardous for drivers on two-lane highways.

TIMING: Between 2pm and 8pm.

SNOW TOTALS: Up to 1" possible south of a Beardstown-to-Springfield-to-Effingham line. A few flurries and non-accumulating snow showers possible elsewhere in central Illinois.

WINDS: Gusts between 20-30 mph during snowfall.

VISIBILITY: Down to 1/4 mile visibility during the most intense snow showers.

Overall good, snow has been unable to stick to most roads save for a few bridges.
