RIVERTON, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) -- Riverton
The Village of Riverton has declared a Snow Emergency as of Friday afternoon.
According to the village's Facebook page, the mayor of Riverton said the emergency becomes active at 6 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14.
Residents in Riverton are being asked to move their vehicles off of snow emergency routes.
There will also be no on-street parking on the routes during the declared snow emergency period.
The city of Springfield has also called a Snow Emergency, which will be in effect on designated snow routes starting 6 p.m. Friday and ending at 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14.
The public is asked to remove parked vehicles from the marked snow emergency routes by 6 p.m. Friday.

The city of Decatur has also declared an Emergency Snow Routes Alert.
As of Friday afternoon, city officials said all normal traffic and parking regulations remain in effect.
But if a Snow Emergency goes into effect, any vehicle that is parking, leaving or standing, would be banned on designated Emergency Snow Routes.
Emergency Snow Routes are identified by red and white signs.
Any vehicle parked on these streets would have to be removed by the time specified.
Petersburg Police Department announced Street Superintendent Dave Troxell has declared a snow emergency for Friday night and Saturday.
A winter emergency has been issued for New Berlin.
All vehicles must be off the road before midnight Friday or they will be towed.
Leland Grove has also declared a snow emergency.
Village of Southern View
The village has declared a snow emergency.
The Village of Jerome has declared a snow emergency.
Police are asking that all residents to remove there vehicles from the road side parking to there driveways.
