Thousands of Catholics attend a 36-hour celebration
Thousands of Catholics visited a shrine in suburban Chicago yesterday.
A 36-hour celebration of the annual Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe ended last night.
The celebration featured 8 masses and 34 artistic performances.
The annual Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe honors the Virgin Mary appearing to Saint Juan Diego in Mexico on December 12 in 1531.
The original shrine honoring that event is located in Mexico City.
The Illinois shrine was created in 1987 and it has become the most visited Catholic shrine in the US.
