Tens of thousands of pounds of food collected for local food bank
Saturday tens of thousands of pounds of food were collected for the Central Illinois Food Bank.
The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has been going on for 25 years in Springfield.
Letter carriers collected non-perishable foods items that were left near people's mail boxes.
Mail carrier, Melinda Thomas, said knowing she helped residents is rewarding.
“You just don't know what a person got going on with their life and sometimes they just need that special somebody who can help or somebody who can just be there and contribute to them,” said Thomas
Last year, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive raised over 35-thousand pounds of food for the Central Illinois Food Bank
