State payments going out to Illinois dentists by end of November
State payments are coming soon too Illinois dentists.
Illinois owes some practices hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The backlog built up during the state's two-year budget impasse.
The Illinois State Dental Society said dentists are going to start getting their backlog paid off by the end of the month, starting with the oldest claims.
Dr. Ty Milner owns Milner Dentistry in Springfield.
About 50 percent of his patients are covered by the State Employees Group Insurance Program.
He said he's owed about $300,000 to $400,000.
Milner said he'll be happy to see this backlog start to shrink.
“I'm sure other offices had an issue with staff raises or staff bonuses, so to be able to give back to our staff and thank them for weathering the storm with us,” Milner said. “But I'm mostly excited to invest in some new dental technologies that we haven't been able to the past couple years.”
Milner Dentistry could continue seeing patients covered by the state's insurance plan during the budget impasse, but some practices in the area had to start turning those patients away.
The Illinois State Dental Society said after all the dental claims are paid off, the state will begin releasing late-payment interest associated with the claims.
