SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — More than 2,000 pounds of food will be donated to families in need this month.
The donations were all for the Hunger is Scary Food Drive, started by St. John's College of Nursing students.
Donations were collected through Oct. 31st.
The food drive turned the event into a friendly competition when the Sangamon County Sheriff's Department and Green Toyota got involved.
The nursing students said it was all to build the community they serve.
"I think all of us going into nursing have a servant heart, so getting to do things like this and going our into the community and making our name known - it means a lot to all of us," Ketelyn Jones, student nurse, said.
Of course, donations are always welcome at the Illinois Food Bank.
The facility is located on East Cook Street in Springfield.
