The Springfield branch of the NAACP hosted the 98th annual Lincoln-Douglass Freedom Fund Banquet.

The purpose of the banquet was to bring the community together to remember the Springfield Race Riots in 1908 to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The Springfield branch President, Teresa Haley, says the chapter hopes to continue to work in the community to commemorate the historic event.

"We would like to thank the people that came out today to support the NAACP as we continue move forward in developing this race riot monument in Springfield," said Haley.

Some of the speakers at the banquet included the current president of the ACLU, The Commissioner during the 100th commemoration of the 1908 Race Riot and an archaeologist.
