SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (WICS/WRSP) — Friday, Blackhawk Elementary students got the chance to shop for a new pair of shoes and socks.
It was organized by the Share to Spirit Foundation.
The Shoes for Kids event took place at the Payless shoe store on North Dirksen Parkway.
The goal was to give kids who may not be able to afford new shoes a chance pick out their own pairs.
Tonya Voepel, co-founder, Share the Spirit Foundation, "It's sort of an overlooked assest that the kids really need to feel comfortable and be able to participate in activities at school."
The Share to Spirit Foundation has given out almost 13 thousand pairs of shoes since 2003.
