SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — The recent snowfall has rural counties on high alert, as back roads easily turn slick and icy.
Back roads are often overlooked when it comes to plow trucks since main roads are usually plowed first.
Christian County has several rural roads.
To prepare for the big snowfall the Sheriff’s Department has officers on standby ready to respond at any time.
They'll also monitor road conditions all night and day.
"A lot of people will drive too fast for the road conditions and end up sliding off the roadway or even sliding into other vehicles,” said Tyler Castle with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers said if you don't have to be out on the roads, stay inside.
If people do drive, slow down and take your time to get to where you're going.
