Revitalizing local neighborhoods through proposed grant program
Springfield is looking to start a down payment assistance program to revitalize neighborhoods.
If this grant program is approved by the City Council, first responders who buy or build a home in the Enos Park Neighborhood would be eligible for grant assistance.
In general, Mayor Jim Langfelder said the program is meant to turn around vacant areas.
The mayor said having emergency responders in neighborhoods could also change dynamics of them.
“It really adds a sense of security with regards to that and they're usually younger individuals but the real key of it all is trying to have home ownership in those areas that need it most within our community,” said Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder.
City Council is expected to take final action at their next meeting.
