Police: Springfield man risked life to save woman
A Springfield man put his own safety aside to save a woman, according to police.
Police said 70-year-old Albert Cole, who was known as Al, was helping a woman who is in a fight with Andrew Brady when he was attacked.
Police said Brady punched Cole, then hit him with his car Tuesday.
Cole died from his injuries on Wednesday.
The following statement is part of a post made by Cole‘s family on a GoFundMe page created to assist with funeral costs:
Al was always known to take the long way home while on trips. He always took his family on the wildest trips down the weirdest roads. He was driving home on Tuesday out of his way and was brutally attacked for trying to help someone (he had just celebrated his 70th birthday on Monday, December 11) But that was Al.
He had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone, even a complete stranger.
Andrew Brady, 27, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery.
If convicted, he’s facing up to 60 years in prison.
Public records show Brady got out of prison earlier this year.
He was convicted of a separate aggravated battery charge in 2015.
