Police investigating murder of Danville teen found in car
A Danville man was found dead in a vehicle Thursday morning and police are saying he was murdered.
Police said an 18-year-old man was found in the vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Glenwood around 8:30 a.m. and they believe he was shot.
"I took my vehicle to the shop this morning and I came home and I saw the tape and I saw the police and all of the people on the street,” resident Michael Randle said.
Police are investigating the incident as a homicide.
"The neighborhood has just gotten so rough,” Randle said. “There’s crime everywhere and the police are doing their job, but they can't be everywhere.”
Police said a resident reported the incident after finding the man inside the parked car that was still running.
“The man was slumped over the wheel or slumped over in the car,” director of public safety, Larry Tomason said. “When officers arrived there they found the man was deceased."
Police said the incident is the first reported homicide this year.
"So we're asking anyone who may have information related to or heard anything or saw something about that vehicle last night or during the day, to call the Danville police department,” Tomason said.
“It's just a sad situation because it hit so close to home this time,” Randle said. “You really have to be aware of your surroundings and you just get paranoid at times.”
Police are not releasing the man's name until his family is notified.
