CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — Illinois State Police responded to a two-car traffic crash on I-74 eastbound at milepost 180 in Champaign County Thursday.
The accident occurred at 3:04 a.m.
According to the preliminary crash investigation, officials said a Dodge van was traveling slower than an international truck tractor with a semi trailer in the right lane.
The semi failed to reduce speed and struck the van in the rear.
The van rolled multiple times and struck the median cable wires.
Both units were towed from the scene due to damage.
The occupants of the van, 31-year-old Jestin Convington, of Bloomington and five juveniles between the ages of one and 10 were transported by ambulance to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the semi was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
