Neighbors save woman from Springfield house fire
A Springfield woman was saved by two neighbors after a fire at her home Tuesday.
Springfield firefighters were called out to the 1900 block of South Seventh Street just after 9 a.m.
The Springfield Fire Marshal tells us a man and woman lived in the home, but the man was at work at the time.
The man received an alert from their security system and that's when he called his neighbors for help.
Two of the neighbors busted in the side door of the home and rescued the woman.
"The neighbor was alerted,” Springfield Fire Marshal Chris Richmond said, “and he came over and forced the side door open, drug her out of the home [and] quite possibly saving her life."
The woman is being treated for smoke inhalation.
Officials said she's in critical but stable condition.
The fire is still under investigation.
We're told the fire started in the kitchen and was contained there.
