MT. STERLING, Ill. (WICS/WLDS) — The suspect in a Mount Sterling, Illinois murder case is back behind bars.
John Michael Dean, 41, was taken into custody Monday night for an undisclosed reason.
According to court documents, due to a previous agreement with former Brown County States Attorney Mark Vincent and Dean’s attorney John Leonard, all filings in the case are impounded from public viewing.
Dean has been confined to his home with an ankle monitor after posting 10% of the $25,000 bail on July 8, 2020.

Dean isaccused of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 44-year-old Rebecca Niewohner.
Authorities found Niewohner in a home in the 400 block of East Chestnut Street around 9:20 p.m. on June 14, 2019.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Our media partner WLDS Radio reports she was shot in the face with a .45 caliber handgun. Dean was found with a gunshot wound to the face, according to WLDS Radio.
Dean is due back in court on Friday.
