Mommy Matters: Raising awareness one hat at a time
In this week’s Mommy Matters, we're talking about raising awareness one hat at a time. That's the goal of a new program through the American Heart Association.
The organization is collecting newborn red knit hats as part of the Little Hats Big Hearts Campaign.
Knitting classes were recently held at several Springfield Illinois National Bank locations as a way to raise awareness for congenital heart defects.
The goal? To deliver a hat to every baby born in Sangamon County during the month of February, which is American Heart Month.
“To remind parents that heart health is important from the day we're born,” INB Communications Director Marilyn Titone Schaefer said. “The statistics are that one and even ten babies are born with some kind of a heart defect.”
If you're interested in making hats, they must be newborn or preemie size and made with red yarn that's cotton or acrylic.
You can drop them off through the end of December at several Illinois National Bank locations.
