Man dies in Decatur after being struck by vehicle
According to the Macon County Coroner the victim's name is Larry C. Williams.
The 48-year-old was from Decatur.
He died from blunt force trauma to his head and torso.
Williams was pronounced dead at 12:23 p.m.
At approximately 11:43 AM on November 14th, 2018, Officers of the Decatur Police Department responded to a traffic crash that occurred at the intersection of E. Eldorado and N. 24th St.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a full size pick-up truck (operated by a 55 year old Decatur man) struck a pedestrian standing near the intersection. The pedestrian was identified as a 48 year old Decatur man.
Initial investigation shows the following; the 55 year old man was traveling east in the 2300 block of E. Eldorado St. The 48 year old pedestrian was standing on the sidewalk on N. 24th St. just south of E. Eldorado St. The pick-up truck left the roadway to the south and was unable to maintain control. The pick-up subsequently continued through the boulevard and front yards on the south side of the 2300 block of E. Eldorado striking the pedestrian on the sidewalk.
The 48 year old man sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital by Decatur Ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Members of the Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene. East bound Eldorado St. went to one lane and 24th St. was completely shut down for approximately 3 hours.
No other information is known at this time.
Macon County Coroner Michael Day said a pedestrian was killed shortly after being struck by a vehicle at North 24th and East Eldorado Streets in Decatur.
The incident occurred at 11:44 a.m. Wednesday.
The coroner said the victim died at a local hospital at 12:30 p.m.
The truck left the roadway and struck the victim, who was standing nearby.
