Man accused of murdering SIU student indicted
The man accused of murdering a Southern Illinois University student back in 2014 has been formally indicted.
Gaege Bethune, 22, faces two counts of first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Pravin Varughese.
Bethune was the last person to see him.
He told police he stopped to give Varughese a ride, the two got into a scuffle and Varughese ran into the woods. He was found dead a few days later.
His family says the indictment is the first step to justice for their son.
Lovely Varughese, the victim's mother, said "he's our only son. It hasn't been easy. And this fight hasn't been easy."
Bethune is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond.
No word yet on when his murder trial will begin.
