Local cops take kids on a Christmas shopping spree
A few kids got a free shopping spree with the help of the Springfield Police Department on Saturday.
It was all a part of the Cops, Kids and Christmas Program.
About 50 kids from Fairview Elementary got to choose between buying a coat and shoes.
Then the rest of the money got to be used one whatever they wanted.
Officers hope this event gives children a good experience with the police.
"This gives us a positive one on one experience the children,” Springfield Officer Timothy Ealey said.
“Some of us bring our own children with us, you know, to enjoy this experience as well. And they get to see that we're just normal people as well.
Each kid had about $100 to spend at the Meijer's store.
This event has been going on for over 20 years.
