Billionaire businessman J.B. Pritzker and Gov. Bruce Rauner are both headed to the November ballot

Pritzker shook hands with Chicago commuters Wednesday morning.

The AP called the race for Pritzker after more than one-third of the vote was reported.

Pritzker said now he can continue to work on talking to more voters and looking forward to the next election.

"Job creation and lowering the cost of healthcare and making sure every child gets a quality education," said Democratic candidate for governor J.B. Pritzker. "That's what this campaign is all about and we are going to make sure people know it."

J.B. Pritzker will take on Gov. Bruce Rauner, who survived in the challenge against Jeanne Ives.

It was a tight race for the Republican party on Tuesday.

After winning the nomination, Rauner took time to thank his supporters and said he will fight corruption.

"We are at a critical time for the state of Illinois, a critical turning point," Gov. Bruce Rauner, R-Illinois. "I am honored and humbled by this victory. You have given me the chance to win the battle against the corruption that plagues Illinois."

Together, Rauner and Pritzker have already put more than $120 million into their campaigns.
