It was an exciting time at the second day of the 2017 Illinois State Fair. Newschannel 20 was at the fairgrounds bringing you live coverage all day. Day two was packed with activities, food, music - everything you would want from a state fair.

A lot of people told Newschannel 20 this state fair has become a family tradition.

"It's always been something that I've looked forward to," said Springfield resident Rachel Schwarz. "It's a great opportunity for me to come out and spend time with my mom." Rachel's mom, Louise Schwarz, has been coming to the Illinois State Fair for the past 34 years, since before Rachel was born.

"It's just her and I, or other family members," explained Louise. "So we usually dedicate one day, every year since she's been born, to come." The mother-daughter duo says it's everything about the fair that brings them back year after year.

"Oh, I love coming here. It's so much fun, the food and the ride above me over here, that's my favorite ride. I do it every year," Louise said.

Rachel said, "[It's] great to have a place to go to around here where we have a bunch of different things that we can all do at one time - whether it be food, the different shows they have on, the dive shows - just a great time and stuff for everybody."

Also at the fair on Friday, over 70 county fair queens represented their counties from across the state. The 2016 Miss Calhoun County Cassidy Becker said, "It's been crazy, I've been super busy but it's been so much fun traveling around, getting to see new queens get crowns and my friends giving up their crowns, it's been great."

Illinois State Fair Spokesperson Rebecca Clark says it's special for more people than just the queens. "It's always a really special event for Director Poe because he gets to take his picture taken and meet all of the county fair queens, and learn a little bit more about different parts of our state - some of the ag issues that are going on in our state."

There is still plenty of fun, music, food and more headed our way for the next several days, and every day has a theme or a focus.

Saturday is Kids Day and Sunday is Veterans Day.
