Ground breaking for new Hindu Temple
Ground broke Saturday for the new 8,500 square-foot Hindu Temple of Greater Springfield.
Dozens of faithful came out to conduct a Bhoomi Puja or ground breaking.
A Bhoomi Puja is performed to bring in positive energies and appease the natural elements of the new site.
The new temple will showcase traditional Hindu architecture.
This is a project almost 10 years in the making.
“Today [Saturday] is the biggest day for us,” said Gopal Reddy. “We have been dreaming about this and this day for seven or eight years ,almost 10 years. And, we got it together. And, after this we are going to the tent and have a few speeches and late lunches. And then the work starts.”
Construction starts Monday.
They expect the new temple to be complete in 2020.
