Rodney Groth, a former Springfield police officer and student resource officer at Lanphier High School, has been sentenced.

Groth pleaded guilty on November 20 to solicitation of a sexual act.

As a part of his plea deal, Groth was sentenced to 24 months probation and ordered to pay $500 plus court costs. He was also ordered to perform 50 hours of community service to be completed in the next 12 months.

Investigators say Groth offered a 17-year-old student money to have sexual relations with him in 2014 while he was a school resource officer.

Groth later resigned from the Springfield Police Department in 2016.

Originally, Groth had pleaded not guilty in April of 2016 to several charges including two counts of official misconduct, one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and two counts of solicitation of a sexual act.
