Flu threat has upgraded in Illinois
Illinois has upgraded its flu watch.
The state is currently reporting the threat as regional flu activity.
This is a result of Illinois seeing an increase in flu or flu-like illnesses over the past few weeks.
While December through February is seen as the most popular time for the flu, doctors encourage people to try and not tough it out, especially this year.
"I think the big thing is if you feel as though you have the flu, stay home. From work, from school, stay away from people because the biggest thing is close human contact so if you keep yourself away from other people, we can keep that spread down," Billie Buhnerkempe, PA-C for Springfield Clinic Prompt Care said.
Nationally, there have been more than 850 people in the hospital with this year's strain of the flu.
As doctors continue to encourage people to get a flu shot.
