Fire destroys Springfield house
Fire crews were called to the 900 block of N. 9th Street, near Enterprise Street in Springfield, at about 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Arriving firefighters say they saw flames coming from the house.
It took more than two dozen firefighters to put out the blaze.
A mother and her child survived with no injuries.
A man, their neighbor living in an apartment in the same house, was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.
Cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire could have possibly started towards the back of the home.
The mother had recently completed her Christmas shopping when she lost everything.
Both the mother and Springfield Fire Marshal Chris Richmond agreed that it was a miracle no one was killed.
Homeowner Donna Holbrook says, "I don't know what I’m going to do right now… Nothing compares. Me and my son, that's all that matters."
Holbrook says her cat might have died in the fire.
The Springfield Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
