Effingham man sentenced in choking death
An Effingham man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in relation to the death of 53-year-old Corey Stice.
Robert Pendergast, 58, entered the guilty plea last week and was sentenced to three years in prison.
Pendergast was charged with placing a choke-hold on Corey Stice of Effingham until the man stopped moving.
Stice later died from his injury.
A separate count of aggravated battery was dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.
Pendergast had been slated to go on trial on January 8.
