Decatur man facing animal cruelty charges

The man accused of leaving his dog in the freezing cold until it died was in Macon County court for the first time Friday.
Shamar Dawson is charged with animal cruelty and faces a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
The dog was found dead in a backyard in January.
Officials discovered the dog two weeks after it died.
Dawson's next court date is set for March 6.
