Illinois State Police responded to a two-car crash at 268 N at 1300 East in Shelby County that resulted in a two-year-old child being airlifted to a hospital in St. Louis.

Police said a Dodge Neon did not give appropriate room on an unstriped roadway, striking an oncoming BMW convertible.

The two-year-old was airlifted with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A 10-month-old child was also in the vehicle, the Dodge Neon, but was uninjured.

The driver of the Dodge, Megan Scarlett, 21, of Cowden, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries but refused treatment.

Child restraints were appropriately used and seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash.

Scarlett was cited for not driving on the right side of the road.
