8 years later, charges filed in Illinois woman's disappearance, death
A man has been charged in the murder of a missing Alton woman who has been missing for nearly eight years.
Bonnie Woodward vanished in the summer of 2010.
Authorities say Roger Carroll lured Woodward from Madison County to a location in Jersey County.
He then shot her and concealed her death by burning her remains.
Investigators say a tip led to the charges against Carroll.
"This is a prime example of the fact that any piece of information that is brought forward can help solve a case, bring closure to a family and be used to put evil-doers in jail," said Chief Jason Simmons with the Alton Police Department.
Police from at least 17 departments have done extensive searches for Woodward for weeks and months after her disappearance.
