Trevione Robinson, 20, of Champaign, was arrested on Friday and faces a murder charge following an investigation into a homicide last week on S. State Street.

Champaign Police were dispatched at 7:39 p.m. on July 13, 2023, to the 1700 block of S. State Street for a report of a shooting with injuries. When officers arrived they found Jahiem Law, 20, from Champaign with a potentially life-threatening injury from a gunshot wound and a 21-year-old woman, also from Champaign, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police rendered medical aid with the assistance of the Champaign Fire Department. Both victims were rushed to an area hospital, where the woman was treated and released, but Law succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The investigation indicated that two large groups gathered and engaged in a physical altercation in a parking lot in the 1700 block of S. State Street. During the altercation, Trevione Robinson produced a firearm and discharged the weapon, fatally striking Law and hitting the woman in the leg, according to the Champaign Police Department. Nearly everyone then fled the area, but several people were detained for questioning by arriving officers.

Following an investigation, police on Friday arrested Robinson for his involvement in this incident. He remains in the custody of the Champaign County Correctional Center awaiting arraignment on murder charges.
