The Champaign Fire Department responded to a report of a dumpster on fire behind an apartment complex at 1007 S. Locust Street in Champaign Monday.

The call came in at approximately 12:03 p.m.

Prior to the department's response to the scene, additional calls to 9-1-1 confirmed the fire was beginning to extend into the apartment building, causing the dumpster fire to be upgraded to a working fire.

A passerby first discovered the dumpster on fire and contacted 9-1-1. Firefighters arrived on scene and deployed a single hose line to quickly extinguish the fire originating from the dumpster.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

There was minor damage to the vinyl siding on the apartment building with no smoke or fire damage reported inside of the apartment units.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
