Central Illinois showed up in droves Friday to donate to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

By 3 p.m., over $50,000 in check donations alone was collected at the Walmart on South Sixth Street in Springfield.

Mid-West Family Broadcasting partnered with NewsChannel 20 to collect donations for those impacted by the storm in Texas.

Deb West, programming director at Mid-West Family Broadcasting, said there's a big need for items like insect repellent, personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies.

The fundraiser started Friday at 6 a.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m.
