Bill aimed at reducing class sizes heads to Rauner
A bill on its way to the governor's desk is looking to keep class sizes at manageable levels around Illinois.
The measure passed out of the Senate Thursday would require schools to report class sizes to the Illinois State Board of Education.
The bill also sets the following class size goals:
- 18 students or less for kindergarten
- 22 students or less for grades 1 through 5
- 25 students or less for grades 6 through 12
- 150 students or less for each teachers caseload
The bill states it hopes schools can reach those goals by the 2020-2021 school year.
