Adam Lopez indicted for financial exploitation of a disabled person
Sangamon County State's Attorney Dan Wright has announced a new charge against Springfield politician Adam Lopez.
The new charge is for the financial exploitation of a person with a disability.
This is added to the five previous charges that were filed on November 7, 2018.
Lopez now faces six counts which include theft, financial exploitation of the elderly, and financial exploitation of a person with a disability.
An arraignment on the new indictment is scheduled for December 20 at 10 a.m.
The new charge alleges that Lopez knowingly and illegally used the assets of a person with a disability totaling an amount above $50,000.
The investigation into Adam Lopez began in September 2018 and is still on going.
Sangamon County State's Attorney Dan Wright said additional victims have been identified.
If convicted, Lopez faces up to 30 years in prison.
