A step closer to redeveloping vacant y block
The vacant Y block is a step closer to being redeveloped.
Mayor Jim Langfelder is recommending a design with a park for in the lot.
The proposal was brought by North Mansion Y Block Development, a group backed by Governor Rauner.
It was selected over a couple other concepts.
There would be emphasis on bringing water to the center of the park.
The "oasis" could be drained as a dry area for movies or frozen in the winter for an ice rink.
Building and maintaining the park for 10 years could cost up to 8 million dollars.
