SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — About 170 runners raced to raise money for United Way on Saturday.
After the run, there was an after party which had face painting and a bouncy house for kids.
The money raised goes directly back into the community.
Over the past seven years the event has raised around $50,000!
“Events like the 5k today [Saturday] really provide a more fun way than making a direct donation and they're great,” said Director of Resource Development at United Way, Jarid Brown. “It's a way to raise awareness for the organization for the service we provide and more importantly raise a little bit of money for our community.”
100 percent of money raised by United Way goes to basic needs, education financial stability, and health programs.
