11th Street Corridor connects UIS students to downtown
Springfield residents will soon have another way to get downtown.
This is a project the city has been working on for decades.
It extended 11th street a half mile between Stevenson Drive and Lincolnshire Boulevard.
This allows students from UIS and the surrounding area a straight shot downtown, improving commute time drastically.
Many downtown business owners said it's a gamechanger for the city.
"Well I know for myself being a vintage store, the opportunity for the college kids to come down is great. We don't have a campus town so this is one way getting them downtown a little faster, a little easier," said Linda Renehan, the owner of Springfield Vintage.
Businesses said they hope this helps bring more university students downtown.
The ribbon cutting will be Saturday at 10am.
The ceremony will take place on 11th street between Stevenson Drive and Lincolnshire Boulevard.
