If you have a COVID-19 test or vaccine appointment scheduled, but don’t have a ride to get there, services to help you are being offered.

The Sangamon/Menard Area Regional Transit (SMART) Service is offering free rides to people who don’t have access to a car or a bus stop nearby.

It’s also a program that helps people get to where they need it if they have a disability.

Officials who oversee the program say that so far, they’ve taken several people to COVID-19 testing sites.

“We have not taken someone to a vaccination appointment; we have been taking people to get tested and we can take people to get vaccinated,” Sangamon County Administrator Brian McFadden said.

McFadden said all of their SMART drivers are trained to properly assist those who may have mobility challenges.

If you need a ride to get from your location to a COVID-19 testing site or vaccine appointment, you will need to call their service 24 hours in advance.

For scheduling or to get ahold of dispatch, call 217–679–5009.

More information on their program can be found here.
