Two-year-old denied kidney transplant because of father's probation
A 2-year-old boy in Georgia desperately needs a kidney but must wait until his father, who is also his donor, can prove he can stay out of jail.
The boy’s father was just released from jail, but the hospital said he has to wait 3 months until he can donate so he doesn't violate his probation.
However, the little 2-year-old may not make it that long.
"The lady was like 'we need your parole information and your probation information,” said mother Carmella Burgess. “He was like, ‘what does that have to do with anything?’ and she was like, ‘we need you to be on good behavior for 3 to 4 months before you can give your son a kidney, and in January of 2018 we'll think about reevaluating you basically’."
The family has a petition online to bring awareness to their story.
The hospital said they're following organ transplant guidelines.
