Every month, Newschannel 20 and Green Family Stores help out a local charity through our Weather Guarantee.

In August, we raised $2,500 towards Girls on the Run.

The $2,500 is the most money raised by our Weather Guarantee ever.

Girls on the Run, an after school activity for girls grades 3 through 8, not only promotes a healthy lifestyle and being physically active at a young age, but it increases self-esteem by encouraging the girls to reach their goals. One of the organization's goals is to compete in a 5k run.

The funds from our Weather Guarantee will help even more girls enter the program.

"This is going to be a huge benefit for us and our fall scholarships," said Jennifer Sublette, executive director of Girls on the Run. "Our program does have a fee, but it’s part of our mission to not turn away any girls. So we provide finical assistance on a sliding scale for the families."

"After hearing and learning a little bit more about this program, I realized my daughter actually participated a couple of years ago," Mylas Copeland, general manager at Green Toyota/Audi/Volkswagen, said. "So to see the enjoyment on her face coming home as they were talking about healthy lifestyles, better choices in food, and kind of tried to adopt that into her own daily life."

The Girls on the Run 5K is on November 5.

Dueling pianos at the Firefighters Postal Lake Club is scheduled for December 23 and will also help fund the program.

Our charity for the month of September is the Washington Street Mission.
