Pleasant Plains High School Adds More Ag Classes
PLEASANT PLAINS, Ill. (WRSP/WICS) —
First year Pleasant Plains teacher, Melissa Stone says Ag classes don't get enough credit.
"There's a common misconception, I think, that Ag classes and FFA is just for kids that are going to go home and take over the family farm. But there's lots of opportunities for students within the Ag industry."
Stone says there are more job openings in the field than people to take them.
"Seed and chemical sales reps, there's Ag law. There’s a million different jobs within the USDA."
This year Pleasant Plains High School is adding Ag business management, Ag science and intro to Ag to the curriculum to get students interested in the field.
"My class size is about 15 right now, but hopefully those numbers will grow as they get used to me being here and figure out what's going on."
