Athens High School Brings In New Volleyball Coach
ATHENS, Ill. (WRSP/WICS) —
Britany Siegart is coming into her first year as the Athens volleyball coach with a goal of winning a regional championship.
Players say they're confident they can get their record back to 500 this year.
"We've already improved from the start of the summer to now," Athens High School senior,Micah Tapscott said. "And then by the time we get to regionals maybe go and have a post season run."
Siegart says emphasizing teamwork has been a big help.
"That's something we've really worked on this year is gathering together as a team; every point, every play."
Players say the coaching change itself creates strong team chemistry.
"Other people have to step up and take on different roles and we're learning to be more accountable for ourselves and for the team," Tapscott said.
Senior Jaiden Jarrard says the program has grown by leaps and bounds since she was a freshman, and she's ready to see it pay off.
"A lot of it is confidence," Jarrard said. "We started with not so much. This year we've gained like a ton of confidence. We're playing more as a team, and hopefully we can step into the roles that we need to get stuff done."
