WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - President Donald Trump took to Twitter Friday morning to let former FBI Director James Comey know something before talking to the press.

"James Comey better hope that there are no 'tapes' of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

The tweet followed four previous statements defending his administration, which faced a number of questions from the media addressing issues of consistency within their message about the firing of Comey.

Trump fired Comey in a letter Tuesday, thanking him for assurances he was not under investigation over Russian ties in the 2016 election.

"Again, the story that there was collusion between the Russians & Trump campaign was fabricated by Dems as an excuse for losing the election," he began shortly before 8 ET.

"The Fake Media is working overtime today!"

"As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with perfect accuracy!...." he stated.

The president continued, questioning whether or not he should "cancel all future 'press briefings'" and instead hand out "written responses for the sake of accuracy."

In an interview with NBC News that aired Thursday night, Trump said he planned to fire Comey regardless of Justice Department recommendations.

Trump called the former director a "showboat" and "grandstander" who left the FBI in "virtual turmoil."

In an interview with Sinclair Broadcast Group, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said he's not quitting, nor did he threaten to quit over his role in the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

His statement contradicted a Washington Post report claiming he had threatened to resign over the narrative from the administration about Comey's firing.
