Weather Guarantee: $1,500 For The Underground Railroad Committee
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WICS) —
Even with all the ups and downs with the weather this past month, our storm team along with Green Family Stores will be donating $1,500 to the Underground Railroad Committee.
The Jacksonville based organization educates kids and families about the purpose of the Underground Railroad, abolitionists and the struggles of African Americans in the early 1800s.
The money will go towards up keep at the historic buildings, some of which were built in the 1840s.
"There's constant repairs always needed for the house," Barbara Suelter, Underground Railroad treasurer, said. "Because over time an 1840s house gets a little tired, and so our intent is to even open some of the old fireplaces"
"Educating people on the underground railroad, the local underground railroad locations," Josh Wagoner, executive manager of Green Family Stores, said. "People were doing something uncomfortable to achieve a goal that was morally right."
March's charity of the month is the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault.
