U of I brings back Harry Potter class
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WICS) —
A popular class is returning to the University of Illinois and it's all about Harry Potter.
It's being taught by Germanic Languages Professor, Lauri Johnson, she taught it for the first time last spring.
She said she is most excited about working with 20-year-old students who love the series.
The president of Harry Potter Alliance said she thinks the class is a great idea because it creates conversation around real-world issues.
“The rise of Voldemort and his followers throughout the book,” president of the Harry Potter Alliance Holly Miller said. “That event isn't just unique to the Harry Potter world. We've seen that consistently throughout history with the Nazi’s and World War II. I mean you can even relate certain aspects of harry potter now to modern politics.”
The class will be offered again in the spring of 2018.
