It's officially tornado season, which means it's time to get an emergency plan in place.

It's important you and your family know where to go and what to do.

If you're home, go to your shelter. This could be your basement or if you are in a single story house, you can shelter in the bathtub. If you're outside, try to find shelter immediately.

"We're well into the month of April and some parts of your viewing area probably have seen tornadoes," said David Butt with the Sangamon County Office of Emergency Management. "But up here around Springfield we're still likely to have them even though it seems as though the calendar is off when it says we're in April."

According to officials, it's vital you check the weather at all times because it's constantly changing.
