Springfield yard waste pickup to begin October 30

The City of Springfield's residential fall leaf pickup AND branch pickup will begin Monday, October 30. Residents need to know the following information in order to have their yard waste and limbs picked up by the city.

Residential Yard Waste/Leaf Pickup

Residents must place their leaves in brown paper leaf bags or plastic containers that are no more than 30 gallons and weigh no more than 50 lbs. Leaves should be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. each Monday morning during the yard waste collection period. The collection period will run through Monday, December 4. All leaves placed properly by 7:00 a.m. each Monday during this six-week time frame will be picked up.

Guidelines have been modified restricting the use of metal cans in order to reduce injury. Metal cans and overweight containers or bags will not be picked up. Crews will place a sticker on any bag or container that does not meet the criteria and residents will be asked to re-bag their leaves.

Other details about the program:

  • All bags in compliance will be picked up and there is no need to call to schedule the service.
  • Do not remove the bagged leaves from the curb once you place them there.
  • Bags should be placed at the end of driveways or on parkways between the sidewalk and street.
  • Leaves should be placed in paper yard waste bags—not grocery sacks or boxes.
  • Do not use any type of tape on the bag to seal it shut as the tape is not recyclable.
