Springfield officials asking to have claims by EPA dismissed
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) —
Springfield city officials are asking a federal judge to dismiss claims made by the EPA.
The agency said Springfield owes more than a $1 million for the hazardous waste from the old Springfield Iron Company site.
The EPA was notified about coal tar contamination back in 2010 and completed the cleanup in 2014.
The motion filed by the city dismisses the claims of a 2012 agreement to reimburse the agency for the cleanup.
They also claim the EPA violated their own guidelines when the clean up's final report was released.
