Springfield Man Dies After Being Struck By Car On Peoria Road
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) —
The Springfield Police Department (SPD) is investigating a car accident late Sunday night left a 75-year-old man dead.
According to reports from SPD, two people were crossing North Peoria Road in Springfield, near the Weebles Bar and Grill, when a car driving on the road swerved to avoid hitting another pedestrian walking in the street. That is when the driver crashed into the elderly man.
Police say the street is not well lit and that there is not a good way for pedestrians to cross.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, the victim was pronounced dead. The victim’s identity has not been released yet until the family has been notified.
Springfield police say the driver of the car that struck the 75-year-old man has been cited for driving without insurance and that alcohol did not play a factor in the accident.
