Senator Durbin To Introduce Bill For Childhood Trauma Victims
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) —
Illinois Senator Dick Durbin is set to introduce legislation aimed at helping children who have experienced violence-induced trauma.
The Trauma-Informed Care for Children and Families Act would create a federal task force to help.
The bill would also expand Medicaid coverage for child trauma services and increase mental health care in schools.
Durbin says he saw the need for this after visiting the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center about nine months ago.
He says most of the children there had previously experienced trauma.
